How is the Basic Life Support (BLS) taught & assessed?
The Basic Life Support (BLS) course at Blueguard ME can either be taught in our training center or at your preferred choice of venue. You will be taught each of the learner outcomes in stages where your teacher will physically demonstrate the various skills and techniques and then have you physically show them what you have learnt. You will be assessed via a practical observation which is completed throughout the course delivery. This ongoing assessment requires learners to demonstrate practical first aid skills. You will also be required to answer a series of questions, using multiple choice exam papers or via oral questioning, depending on your teacher’s preferred choice.
What are the requirements to take the Basic Life Support (BLS) course?

At Blueguard ME we offer a blended learning option for our basic life support (BLS) course. You can complete the Online Emergency First Aid at Work course and upon successful completion obtain an e-certificate for Online Emergency First Aid at Work. This enables you to then attend only a three hour in-person training for: Basic Life Support & use of an AED instead of four hours. You cannot obtain a basic life support certificate online as there is a practical part of the course that must be physically demonstrated in-person and assessed by your instructor in class. Learning basic first aid training through our Basic Life Support & use of an AED qualification can be the difference between life and death for an individual you choose to help.
No, CPR certification online is not valid. At Blueguard ME, we are firm believers that CPR must be demonstrated and practiced in person in order to effectively be recognized as a first aider. Learning the theory part of cardiopulmonary resuscitation online is beneficial, however only practicing it physically in-person and going through an in-person assessment with your teacher will give you a valid certification.
