Beaches will reportedly be equipped with this new tech by the end of the year
The UAE waters will soon be equipped with new AI technology to prevent drowning incidents.
According to Khaleej Times, AI-based tech will soon be used to monitor the beaches of the UAE to prevent drowning incidents. Experts have said that this new tech will be installed on various beaches in the Emirates before the end of the year.
The preventive measure was announced after the World Health Organization (WHO) announced July 25 as the first-ever drowning prevention day.
Cameras equipped with new artificial intelligence-based technology will be put up on the beaches of the UAE to help and assist lifeguards monitor the swimmers and identify potential risks.
The news outlet revealed that the Water safety and first aid company Blueguard has joined hands with a technology provider to make this come true.
The founder and managing director of Blueguard, Luke Cunningham talked about how the tech will help lifeguards on a busy day on the beach when there are hundreds of swimmers.
Cunningham said that this technology can detect the number of people “in the water” and identify if a “swimmer is in distress.” The tech will then send the information back to the lifeguard.
Luke Cunningham claimed that drowning is “completely preventable,” and that people need to realize that water is associated with dangers even though it looks safe and relaxing place.
As per the World Health Organization (WHO), almost 236,000 people lose their lives from drowning every year and kids between one and four are more at risk.
